Visiting The Pearl Harbor War Memorial

 

  
The Pearl Harbor War Memorial is a great place for us to visit and remember the fallen soldiers who died there. The attack happened on December 7, 1941. This happened nearly 68 years ago and is still one of the most memorable attacks on the U.S. In remembrance of the soldiers who died trying to defend our country and freedom the USS Arizona has been dedicated as the Pearl Harbor War Memorial. With over 1,500,000 visitors every year, this memorial remains one of the top destinations for tourists. Let us take a look at the things that you can do at this magnificent memorial that honor our soldiers.

 

 

One of the first places that tourists enter as they visit the Pearl Harbor War Memorial is the visitor center. Within the visitor center you can locate two theaters, bookstore, restrooms, museum, public phones, a snack bar and exhibits the detail the attack on Pearl Harbor. Once you have entered the visitors center you are asked to line up and receive a numbered ticket.

 

 

This ticket will provide you with free admission to the guided tour. There are other places that you can visit here also. Visiting the museum will allow you to get an up close view of the sights and sounds that were a part of he attack. You can also view memorabilia, artifacts, photos and other exhibits. The bookstore offers over 150 books that are related to the attack on Pearl Harbor.

 

 

Here you will also find over 50 video tapes as well as audio tapes, posters and many more souvenirs that will always remind you of this devastating day of our nations history. There are also some very effective interpretive programs that you can visit here. Within the memorial you will be able to view three very distinct rooms. These rooms are the Entry Room. This room holds the flags of the nine states that the battle ships that were lost were named for.

 

 

The second room is the Shrine Room. This room is where a marble plaque is housed. This plaque is etched with the names of all 1,177 sailors That were lost on the Arizona during the attack. The third room is the assembly Room. This room is where many ceremonies are performed. While here you can also get a closer look at the remains of of the Arizona below them.
