Hawaii Weather |Hawaii Temperatures and which travel season offers the best vacation time
The Hawaiian Islands are located in the North Pacific Ocean just above the equator (1470 mi | 2365km). With Hawaii lying at the edge of the Tropic of Cancer, the temperature throughout the year does not vary more than 15 degrees between the seasons depending where you are on the islands - giving you really two weather seasons - winter (warm) and summer (wammer)!
What is the Weather and Temperatures like on the Hawaiian Island?
The rainy season in Hawaii is usually from November to March, and summer is considered the dry season - though it rains somewhere in Hawaii almost every day of the year. But even in the rainy season it typically does not rain everywhere on the island so if it is raining on the spot that you laid down your beach blanket, jump into your car and drive and in no time at all you will have reached your sunny spot in paradise! Did you know?
That each of the Hawaiian Islands has their own microclimates (highly localized weather patterns) due to each regions location on the island and topography (i.e. valley, coastal plain, or mountain peak) so you can get areas of high rainfall neighboring desert like areas.
If you ask a local where the best spot to go.... they will just say if you do not like the weather where you are, hop a bus and you will find the sunshine.

Generally each island can be split into a leeward side which is the west and south shores, and a windward side which is the east and north shores. So if you want hotter desert like weather, visit the leeward side which tends to be hot and dry. And if you are looking for lusher rain forest like weather head windward which is cooler and wetter.
Which is the best travel seasons for taking a Hawaii Vacation?
When talking seasons, Hawaii has three seasons high, mid and low.
High Season: (mid-December to mid-April) Hawaiis high season consists of the winter months engulfing Christmas time and Easter week. Here the prices are the highest, the resorts are booked to capacity it just is the busiest, especially December to February with many from the mainland trying to escape the winter and blizzards. And to think that February and March are the coolest months in the calendar for Hawaii.
Mid Season: (mid-June to end of august) Summer is the secondary high season with a slight break on accommodation, airfare and vacation packages. Why it stays so busy and pricey is due to many families traveling over the childrens summer school vacation. August tends to be Hawaiis warmest month of the year.
Low Season (or Off-Season): Spring (mid-April to mid-June) and Fall (September to mid-December). This is typically when the prices drop for hotels, airfares are usually the lowest for the year, and there are tons of vacation packages to choose from. And what makes low season even better, it is the best time to travel to Hawaii due to the weather is the most reliable with consistently clear skies and 80oF (27oC) days.
So the best time to travel to Hawaii depends on ....
Due to the temperature being this fairly constant, weather should not really play a major factor on when to travel to Hawaii. What will ultimately be the deciding factors are: how much you want to spend on your vacation, if you want to deal with crowds, how badly you want to swap shoveling snow to lying on the beach, and what is available in accommodations and flights basically which season you want to travel in.
